MY BEST FIND EVER! 2ND GOLD COIN THIS YEAR! FULL GOLD STATER FOUND METAL DETECTING
OH MY DAYS GOLD FULL STATER! SHOCKING FIND! Wow, well where do I start! We finally got some dry weather so me and Jason Norfolk Button Boy got up nice and early and headed out! As always I was using my Deus 1 with the x35 coil. I was using the Hot setting program 9 and literally only changed the sensitivity to 96 and the Reactivity to 2.5 everything else I left alone! This setting is my favourite by far and has worked well for me. I wanted to do a video for my channel Norfolk Girl Detects so after having to retake the start of it a few times as getting the giggles as I always do we set off. Our normal conversation as we are turning our machines on is “we will stick together griding the field” This never happens as I always end up bored of walking up and down the field so I wander off in a world of my own walking wherever! I came to the bottom corner of the field which was very boggy! Jason came walking past saying it’s horrible in that bit as it’s really wet and boggy, he carried on walking! Whilst in that area I dug some lead and a musket ball. As I walked away from the area and headed towards Jason I hit a target The target was a very clear tone showing 79 on the screen As I dug I thought possibly lead as had a few bits in the area I got it out of the hole and then began searching with the pinpointer. As I got closer I could just make out that lovely yellow colour that we all dream of poking through the clod of soil. I moved it a bit double checking as shocked trying not to disturb the soil and then my heart leapt. I quickly began filming showing the numbers it read up and then looked up and saw Jason in the process of filming and had to go straight to him. I didn’t think he would believe me at first as I’m always messing about and winding him up about what I’ve found! I get to Jason and say come and see what I’ve found! He thought I was messing about but when he crouched down he could see what I saw! I was nervous to reveal it as honestly still didn’t seem real. Plus being that first person holding this coin from when it was last held and wondering what their story was! But slowly revealing with shaking hands and seeing a beautiful Gold full stater with amazing detailing it really was another dream come true! When I turned the coin over to clean the other side the coin was still in very good condition but blank! I think my comment was ‘oh that’s unusual’! However I’ve seen coins like it before but was just in a moment of shock ! Straight away I took photos and sent messages to some friends to help me Identify this amazing coin. Within minutes I got an identification and was taken a back by the history of this amazing coin. Gallo Belgic Ambiani E Gold Stater 50BC Plain obverse / Sinuous horse right, pellet below, other ornaments around. A wonderful example of this popular issue, bold, central strike showing good detail. It is commonly thought that it was these uniface staters which were used to pay the Gallic armies to fight Julius Caesar. Once I’d taken hundreds of photos and left Jason posting up on his Norfolk button Boy Facebook page to let others know my good news and of course done a crazy gold dance, I was ready for a break! I just couldn’t concentrate! Plus I was so scared I’d loose the coin! After taking our break we set off again but I couldn’t concentrate my mind was all over the place for one thinking these things just don’t happen for me! And for two I only found the gold quarter Stater just over a month ago! I was so glad Jason was with me when I found this amazing coin and not on FaceTime like the last gold coin I found!
